Why do you love your spouse? For those of you that are married, have you ever really stopped and asked yourself that question? When I do pre-marriage counseling for couples, I always ask them “why do you want to get married?” There are many answers given. Some are attracted to their fiance’s physical appearance. Some are attracted by the personality. Some are attracted by the characteristics that the other has which are lacking in their own life. There are many reasons to love your spouse, but why should we really love each other?
In 1 Corinthians 7:3 Paul writes, “3 Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband.” The Bible tells us that we should love our spouses not because of how they look, what they do or how they act. We are to love our spouses because the Bible commands us to.
Take time today to show your spouse the type of love the same love that Christ first showed us — a selfless, sacrificial, edifying love. No, not because they deserve it, but because the Lord demands it.
I pray for blessings today for you on your Journey!
