What Really Offends You?

I think that it is safe to say that most of us are not big “fans” of dentists. We don’t like the drillings, root canals, fillings, etc. Just me mere mention of the word “dentist” causes some of us to grimace in pain. But, why do we not like the dentist when they are there to help us? Is it really that we do not like the dentist or do we not like what they have to do to our teeth? In reality, most dentists are really nice people and very good at what they do. No, it isn’t the dentist that we don’t like; it is what they have to do to our teeth. The same can be said for the Gospel.

In Matthew 14:3-5 we read, “For Herod had laid hold of John and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife. Because John had said to him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.” And although he wanted to put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.” Herod was angry at John because he didn’t like what John had to tell him. In fact, he was so angry at John that he had John beheaded. It wasn’t that Herod necessarily didn’t like John, he didn’t like his message.

As you look at your own spiritual walk, what really offends you? The brothers and sisters that love you and reach out to you, or the message of the Gospel that they give to you? Too often, we walk away from the Lord because we don’t like the message of the Gospel. Yes, we want salvation, but do we really have to stop living the “fun life”? If you find yourself getting offended, check to see what is really offending you.

I pray for blessings today for you on your Journey!
