A Year End Benediction

As we end 2013 and look forward to 2014, let us end with Paul’s final words in the Book of Romans.

Romans 16:25-2725 Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began 26 but now made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures made known to all nations, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, for obedience to the faith— 27 to God, alone wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen.

I pray blessings for you today and in 2014 on your Journey!

Christmas Eve.001

If you currently do not have a church home, we would like to invite you to spend this Christmas Eve with our family at Journey of Faith. Our Christmas Eve Candlelight Service will be at 5:00 PM. We would be blessed to share this special evening with you.

The Good News of Christmas

Luke 1:30-3330 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”

Have You Done Your Christmas Shopping Yet?

Well, there is only a few more days left before Christmas and most of us are very busy trying to finish all of our shopping. As you look at your shopping list, are you missing anyone from your list. No, I am not talking about your family, friends or co-workers. I am talking about the Lord. What are you going to give to the Lord this year?

In James 1:22-25 we read, “22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.”

The greatest gift that we can give to the Lord this year is our heart. Be “doers of the word” by living out God’s Word to all around you. Show people love. Show people compassion. Don’t be so quick to criticize, but rather show kindness. Live out God’s Word in all you say, all you do, what you speak. That is the only gift that He has ever wanted.

I pray for blessings today for you on your Journey!

Does Anything Good from Temptation?

When we are confronted with temptation, we are forced to make a decision — what is most “beneficial” for me. When we are tempted with dessert, we must determine if the taste and satisfaction is worth the weight we will gain. If we are tempted to not go to the gym to workout, we must decide if the guilt of not going feels better than the feeling of having exercised. If we are tempted with sin, we must decide if the “benefit” of sin outweighs the rewards that await us.

In James 1:12 we read, “12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.” James states that if we can endure the temptation, God has a “crown of life” waiting for us.

As you look at the way that the enemy is tempting you right now, does the sin seem as beneficial as the crown of life? Strive for the crown that the Lord has waiting for you.

Did You Come Expecting Great Things?

“Did you come expecting great things from a great God?” If you have ever attended our worship service, you know that I ask that question to the church before each message.  I am sure some people think that it is “corny”, maybe some even wish I would stop doing it, but there is a point that I am trying to make. Do we really expect great things from a GREAT God or do we just assume that the trials we are enduring will continue forever?

In James 1:2-6 James writes, “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.”  James encourages us to ask in faith, “with no doubting”.

When we cry out to God, do we doubt or do we ask in faith? No, He may not answer our prayers immediately, but maybe the greatest blessing that will come from that prayer is what we learn about ourselves and our faith as we wait. Do you expect great things from at GREAT God? If not, why?

If Everyone Else is Doing It…….

Recently, we studied scripture that talked about the “Fall of Man”. That was when the serpent got Adam and Eve to eat of the only tree that God forbid them to eat from. I talked about the ways that the devil will get us to doubt God’s Word, he will deceive us into thinking that sin is good for us (if everyone else is doing it, why can’t you?), once we are convinced it is good for us we become disobedient which disrupts the peace in our lives.  I shared that the devil’s tactics have never changed and, unfortunately, they haven’t had to.

I was reading an article today about Lance Armstrong; the world class cyclist that was stripped of all of his titles and awards because it was discovered that he was using banned, performance enhancement drugs.  This article stated, “Armstrong, who was stripped of his record seven Tour de France titles last year, said he would still dope if he had to do it over again because most of his peers were cheating, too, according to ESPN.com” His quote reminded me of how the devil will work to convince us that what we know is wrong is actually right and good.

As you look back on the sin in your life, if you had the do it all over, would you do it again?

I pray for blessings today for you on your Journey!
