American Idol’s

I remember the first time “American Idol” was on TV. It was talked about on television, radio, in houses and by the water cooler at work. Each week, people would discuss the “idols” — who did well and who needed to get voted off. These young singers could not go anywhere without having crowds screaming and yelling their names. People even changed their schedules and lives so that they would never miss an episode. These singers truly were “idols” in America.

In Leviticus 19:4 we read, “‘Do not turn to idols, nor make for yourselves molded gods: I am the Lord your God.”

In our society, it seems that we make many people idols – singers, actors, athletes, business people, etc. If someone is “successful”, they must be worthy to worship, right? The Bible reminds us that there is only one person that is worthy of our worship and that is the Lord. He is the only One that is worthy today, tomorrow and forever.

Do You Show Love?

If you really loved me, you would ………… How many times have we said that to others? Too often, we define love by what others do for us, what they give to us. Yes, one definition of love is what we receive from others, but do you know that they biblical definition of “love” is how we show it to others?

In 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 Paul writes, “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;”

If we are to truly understand and receive love, we must first show it to others. Remember, before Jesus received love from those here on earth, He first came and showed it to us. As you look at your life and love, instead of defining how you receive love, first ask “do you show love”?

I am Coming Quickly

Growing up, my dad used to have a saying “tomorrow never comes”. I heard that a lot when I would tell my dad that I would do something tomorrow instead of today. Well, my dad was right, I normally would put something off until tomorrow and then not do it anyway. My dad’s message to me was to get things done today because it won’t get done tomorrow.  Jesus tells us the same thing.

In Revelation 22:20-21  we read, “20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! 21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.”

Through out the Book of Revelation, Jesus reminds us that our time is short and He is “coming quickly”. Since we don’t know when that time is, we must be prepared for it now. As you look at your relationship with Jesus, if it is not where it should be, take time today to make things right with the Lord. My prayer for all of you is that when that time comes, we will all say “come, Lord Jesus!”

The River of Life

My prayer for all of you is that we may all see the River of Life one day.

Revelation 22:1-5 states, “22 And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.”

All Things Are Made New

How many times in our lives have we wished for new things? Maybe it is a car. Maybe it is a house. Maybe it is a new body. We want new things so that we can get rid of the old and broken that we have. Unfortunately, nothing ever remains new. Nothing ever remains perfect. Or does it?

In Revelation 20:1-5 we read, “21 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John,[a] saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”

Only Jesus can and make everything new in your life. Regardless of how “old” and “broken” things may seem to you now, remember that something new and amazing awaits those that are called children of God.

One Day…..

Has there ever been a time in your life when you have thought, “one day”? One day, that person will get what is coming to them. One day, things will get better. One day, I will be healed. I think that it is safe to say that we have all thought “one day”. Instead of thinking of “one day”, have you ever stopped and thought of “the day”?

In Revelation 19:11-16 John writes, “11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. 12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. 13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. 15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND, LORD OF LORDS.”

When “the day” comes, all of our “one day’s” will be washed away. The Lord will return in all of His glory and might to reclaim what is His — you and me! When “the day” comes, we will all be healed, we will all be comforted, we will be with Jesus in Heaven.

Psalm 139:13-14

Psalm 139:13-14

13 For You formed my inward parts;

You covered me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;[a]
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.

You Shall Find Them No More

Every year, we read of lists of people that are “the richest people on earth”. These individuals are recognized for their wealth, possessions, and status in society. I guess if we do not make that list, we are considered “poor”. Did you know that in God’s eyes, He sees people as the exact opposite?

In Revelation 18:14 we read, “14 The fruit that your soul longed for has gone from you, and all the things which are rich and splendid have gone from you, and you shall find them no more at all.”

Jesus constantly reminds us that it is not material possessions that will make us rich. Some would argue that material possessions could actually make us poor. Jesus tells us that we are rich in Him and only Him. Yes, those material possessions are nice, but they are temporary. In fact, Jesus tells us “you shall find them no more at all”. The only true possession is Jesus and He and only He will make us rich. Rich in His grace, mercy and peace. We can’t take our material possessions with us when we die, the we can take Jesus!
