Too Many Choices!!

If you have ever gone car shopping, you may have noticed that car companies do a great job of giving you choices. You think you know what you want, but then the choices start coming — colors, shapes, sizes, speeds, video screens, etc. Before you know it, you are so confused that you forget what you wanted in a car to begin with. Choices are nice, but sometimes they can be overwhelming!

In Deuteronomy 13:1-3 we read, “13 “If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, ‘Let us go after other gods’—which you have not known—‘and let us serve them,’ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the Lord your God is testing you to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.”

Just like everything else in life, when it comes to your walk with Jesus, people will try to give you “too many choices”.  But, unlike cars and homes, when it comes to Jesus, there is only once choice. Choose to follow “God with all your heart and with all your soul.”

How Do we Bless the Lord?

There are certain people in your life that do so much for you that you want to do much for them also. As hard as you try, you never seem to be able to do as much for them. Have you ever thought that about the Lord? He has done so much for us, yet it doesn’t seem that we can ever do the same for Him, correct?

In Psalm 34:1-3 we read, “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make its boast in the Lord; The humble shall hear of it and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, And let us exalt His name together.”

The only way that we can “bless” the Lord is through our praises. No, not just in our words, but in everything. Let all that you do, say, see and places you go honor and glorify the Lord.

Are You Sure You Trust That?

Years ago, our family went on a vacation in Chicago. One of the highlights was to visit the Sears Tower and take a tour of the top (over 100 floors up). At one point, you can stand on a glass portion and look “down” all the way to the street. I was impressed that man can build towers so tall and so sturdy to support tons of weight, endure fierce storms and survive for decades. What is more impressive is that as strong and sturdy they may seem, they are nothing compared to the Lord.

In Mark 13:2 Mark writes, “And Jesus answered and said to him, “Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone shall be left upon another, that shall not be thrown down.” While buildings may be “great”, our Lord is greater!

The next time you begin to doubt your faith and trust in the Lord, remember that the buildings we work in, the planes we fly in, the elevators we ride in are nothing compared to the power and authority that our Lord has. When all else has crumbled, He will still be standing!

What Has Your Faith Done for You Lately?

Have you ever noticed that our faith is at it’s strongest when things are going well in our lives and it seems to be at it weakest when things are not going well in our lives? It seems ironic that this happens because in reality our faith should be at it strongest when things are not going well for us.

In Mark 5:32-34 Mark writes, “32 And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. 33 But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. 34 And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.” Although this woman had been struggling for years, she did not lose her faith. It was because of her faith that she reached out to Jesus. It was because of her faith that she was healed.

As you look at your own life and your own faith, what has your faith done for you lately? Are you struggling with something in your life right now? If so, is your faith getting stronger or are you doubting what the Lord can do in your life?

Rejoice in Answered Prayers

Step 1: Pray for God to work in your life.

Step 2: Give thanks to the Lord when He answers those prayers.

Psalm 28 – “28 To You I will cry, O Lord my Rock: Do not be silent to me, Lest, if You are silent to me, I become like those who go down to the pit. Hear the voice of my supplications When I cry to You, When I lift up my hands toward Your holy sanctuary. Do not take me away with the wicked And with the workers of iniquity, Who speak peace to their neighbors, But evil is in their hearts. Give them according to their deeds, And according to the wickedness of their endeavors; Give them according to the work of their hands; Render to them what they deserve. Because they do not regard the works of the Lord, Nor the operation of His hands, He shall destroy them And not build them up. Blessed be the Lord, Because He has heard the voice of my supplications! The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, And with my song I will praise Him. The Lord is their strength, And He is the saving refuge of His anointed. Save Your people, And bless Your inheritance;
Shepherd them also, And bear them up forever.”

What is the Purpose?

I must admit that there were times in my life that I was very willing to take all of the credit for the good things in my life and blame others (including God) for the bad things in my life. I reasoned that if something good happened in my life, it must be because of what I did. When bad things happened, it couldn’t be my fault, right? I gladly received the miracles in my life, but never really thought about their purpose. Do you know the purpose of the miracles in your life?

In Numbers 20:11-12 it states, “11 Then Moses lifted his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came out abundantly, and the congregation and their animals drank. 12 Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not believe Me, to hallow Me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.” Moses was not permitted to go into the promised land because he did not allow God’s glory to be seen by all of Israel.

When you look at the answered prayers and miracles in your life, remember the main purpose — for God to be glorified. Rather than take the credit, give the glory to the Lord; the real reason behind the good in your life.

The Perfect Sacrifice

We spend a lot of time trying to be “perfect”. Whether it be through exercise, studying, or self-help studies, we strive to be perfect in our eyes and in the eyes of those around us. Did you know that no matter how hard we try, we will never be “perfect” here on earth, but we are perfect in God’s eyes?

In Numbers 19:2 we read, ““This is the ordinance of the law which the Lord has commanded, saying: ‘Speak to the children of Israel, that they bring you a red heifer without blemish, in which there is no defect and on which a yoke has never come.” In the Old Testament, animals without blemish were used to atone for the sins of Israel. The “perfect” animal was the only way for the Lord to forgive Israel of their sins.

Fortunately for us, we do not have to present animals without blemish for sacrifice because God sent His son to be our perfect sacrifice. Because of Jesus and the blood He shed, we are all perfect in the Lord’s eyes. Regardless of how we see ourselves, or the world see us, in God’s eyes we are without blemish, perfect, worthy to be call His child.

Would You Know How to Order for the Lord?

Whenever my family and I go out to dinner, I can almost always predict how they will order; what they will eat, what they will drink, who likes extra ice and extra tomatoes. No, I am not a mind reader, but because I have spent so much time with them I know what they like. In fact, because I know them so well, I can pretty much predict how they will react in almost all situations. If you were to go out to eat with the Lord, would you be able to order for Him?

In Jeremiah 29:11-13 it states, “11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” Yes, most people are familiar with verse 11, but have you really stopped to read verse 13?

If we really want to know the Lord in the same manner that we know our families, we must spend time with Him. We must find Him, and search for Him “with all of your heart”. We can’t know Him if we never spend any time with Him. If you were go go out to eat with the Lord today, would you be able to order for Him?
