I am Not Worthy

How many times have we been offered things/opportunities by people we know, but have turned them down because we did not think we were worthy to receive such a generous offering? Maybe it was a ticket to an event, an offer to buy you a meal, or something else that meant a lot to you. Yes, we wanted to receive it, but declined because we did not feel “worthy” of such a kind gesture.  Unfortunately, too many of us allow this king of reasoning to carry over to our spiritual live, as well.

In Luke 7:6 we read, “Then Jesus went with them. And when He was already not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying to Him, “Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof.” The centurion with the ill servant wanted Jesus to heal him, but didn’t think that he was worthy enough to have Jesus enter his house. Jesus healed the servant and commended the centurion for his great faith.

Maybe you are like the centurion.  Based upon past or current sin, you do not feel worthy to invite the Lord into your heart. You want Him there, you need Him there, but you do not feel like you deserve it. Remember the centurion — It was his faith that Jesus was interested in, not whether or not he was worthy.  We are all made worthy through Jesus Christ, He just wants us to have faith in that promise.

Do You Seek to Touch Him?

For many celebrities and professional athletes, they must have security around them in public because people will want to touch them, shake their hands, take a picture with them, or talk to them. Most people want to “get close to” the people they see on TV, in the movies, or playing in the stadium.  We think that if we get close to them, we will standout amongst our friends. Do we have that same desire to be close to Jesus?

In Acts 6:19 we read, “19 And the whole multitude sought to touch Him, for power went out from Him and healed them all.”

The whole multitude wanted to touch Jesus because they knew that they would be blessed because of it. Today, we have that same opportunity to “touch” Jesus by spending time with Him, getting to know Him better and developing a deeper relationship with Him. The only question is, “do you seek to know Him”?

Never Forget

13 years ago, we woke to news that terrorists had attacked the United States and changed the world forever.  I am sure that you have already paused for a moment today to remember what you were doing and where you where on September 11th when you heard the terrible news. Amongst the fear and anger, there was a strong need to be with the ones you love. You see, it caused all of us to pause and be thankful for our loved ones.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 states, “18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Paul reminds us that even in the midst of tragedy, we must remember to give thanks to God for all that He has given to us in our lives. As we remember those that lost their lives that tragic September 11th, take time today to give thanks to God for those that He has brought into your lives.

What is Your Verse?

Recently, Apple had an advertisement on their webpage that stated, “Everyone has a favorite verse”.  Now, I realize that they were not talking about the Bible, but I think the same can be said for God’s children and His Word. I believe that it is safe to say that every Christian has a favorite verse that speaks to them.  Normally, I share a verse that I studied during my daily reading, however, I would like to do something different today.

As part of this devotional, I want to encourage you to share with someone you know today your favorite Bible verse and why it is so special to you.
