Recently, we have begun a “neighborhood watch” program in our area. While talking to our neighbors, we were shocked to hear of the crime that has been occurring near us (our car was broken into last week). One of the goals of our neighborhood watch program is to have all of us “keep watch” over the houses and streets in our neighborhood. If we, as neighbors, are more aware of what is happening around us, we can hopefully protect our homes from future incidents. This reminds me that we also must “keep watch” over our spiritual lives.
In Matthew 25:13 it states, “13 “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour[a] in which the Son of Man is coming.”
Jesus warns us to “watch”, in other words, be aware of what is happening around us. If we “keep watch”, we are better prepared to identify what is and isn’t pleasing to the Lord. Just like a neighborhood watch program, it should be all of our goals to keep those things out of our lives (our neighborhood) that seek to cause us harm. When Jesus returns to our “neighborhood”, it should be our desire to make sure it is “crime free”.
I pray for blessings today for you on your Journey!
