Have you ever heard the phrase, “knee jerk reaction”? I refers to an automatic response that we do in relation to something that has happened. Sometimes, a “knee jerk reaction” helps us (e.g, removing our hand from a fire). Sometimes a “knee jerk reaction” hurts us.
In 1 Samuel 30:6 we read, “ 6 Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.”
David’s city had been invaded and all of the women, children and valuables had been taken away. Rather then respond with a “knee jerk reaction”, “David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.” Based upon God’s guidance and protection, David caught the men that had invaded his city, he recovered all of the people and valuables that were taken, and he honored God along the way. When our instincts tell us to “knee jerk”, remember to strengthen yourself in the Lord.
I pray for blessings today for you on your Journey!
