You Don’t Have to do That

As I look back, I have realized that there were times when I have people around me that were doing things that did not honor the Lord. Sometimes, when people are acting in ways that are not honoring to the Lord, they will attempt to get people to “go along” with their actions. Either to make themselves feel better (“I am not the only one doing it”) or because they need assistance in their sin. As I looked back at the story of David and Bathsheba today, I realized that David’s “sin” would not have been possible without the assistance of others.

In 2 Samuel 11:14-17 we read, “14 In the morning it happened that David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it by the hand of Uriah. 15 And he wrote in the letter, saying, “Set Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retreat from him, that he may be struck down and die.” 16 So it was, while Joab besieged the city, that he assigned Uriah to a place where he knew there were valiant men. 17 Then the men of the city came out and fought with Joab. And some of the people of the servants of David fell; and Uriah the Hittite died also.”

Be aware of people that will get you to participate in their sin. David’s sin kept getting worse because there were people around him that were willing to help. If people ask you to join them or cover for them, remember, you don’t have to do that. Let their actions be their actions. Let you life be a gift to the Lord.

I pray for blessings today for you on your Journey!
