A Parent to Many

Isaiah 54:1-3 – 54 “Sing, O barren, You who have not borne! Break forth into singing, and cry aloud, You who have not labored with child! For more are the children of the desolate Than the children of the married woman,” says the Lord“Enlarge the place of your tent, And let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; Do not spare; Lengthen your cords, And strengthen your stakes. For you shall expand to the right and to the left, And your descendants will inherit the nations, And make the desolate cities inhabited.

Not everyone gets the opportunity to be a parent. Whether by choice or health related issue, some do not birth and raise a child. This can be a very painful season in their life as they look at those around them as they raise children.

Today’s scripture is meant to be a message of hope. No, we might not all get to be a birth parent, but God’s Word reminds us that “You who have not labored with child! For more are the children of the desolate Than the children of the married woman” . May the Lord use you to be a parent figure to “the children of the desolate“. You can and will be “A Parent to Many”.

I Am Not As Good

Isaiah 44:2 – Thus says the Lord who made you And formed you from the womb, who will help you: ‘Fear not, O Jacob My servant; And you, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.

From childhood to our “golden years”, we measure how we are doing in relation to those around us. As we compare, we begin to notice all of the “flaws” that we think we have. We are no longer smart enough, good enough or worthy of anything good happening to us.

In today’s scripture we are reminded, “Thus says the Lord who made you And formed you from the womb, who will help you”. Because God made us and formed us, there is no need for us to compare ourselves with others. The Lord made us exactly how He wanted us and sees all of the wonderful features that He gave you and only you. You are good enough because God was your creator. Take comfort in knowing that you are perfect in His eyes.

I Am Ready

2 Corinthians 5:10 – 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

I remember having many years ago conversation with individuals I had just met regarding the second coming of Christ. After a brief discussion of about when, where, and how it may happen, I reminded them that we do not need to be concerned about Jesus returning to earth for us as much as we need to be concerned about us going to see Jesus when we die. I explained that we must be prepared for when we die because that could happen at any time.

In today’s passage Paul reminds us that “we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body,” I worry that too many people believe they will have years to “get right with God”, yet, for some the time could come tomorrow. Today, take the time to prepare yourself spiritually so that you can confidently state “I am ready” regardless of when that time may be.

Don’t Worry God Will Take Care of It.

Hebrews 11:1 – 11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

One thing I will always remember about my mom is how she never really worried about anything. One of her favorite sayings was, “don’t worry, God will take care of it”. Regardless of the issue, my mom was confident that God would take care of it. What impressed me the most was that God really did take care of the matters. Some may call it miracles, some may call it coincidences, but I choose to call it “faith”.

In today’s verse we are told, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”. My definition of faith is trusting that God will take care of the things in your life even when you can’t see how it will end. May your faith and trust today be in the Lord and not upon your own capabilities. It is only through Him that you will be able to see and end to your troubles and trials.

Help

Isaiah 31:1 – 31 Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, And rely on horses, Who trust in chariots because they are many, And in horsemen because they are very strong, But who do not look to the Holy One of Israel, Nor seek the Lord!

When you need help, where do you turn? There have been entire industries, making billion of dollars each year, created to help you when you need answers and guidance. In fact, I recently Googled “help” and within .59 second (yes, less than a second) I received “About 8,000,000,000.” answers Yes, there were about 8 billions sites where I could find something related to help.

In today’s passage we are told, “Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help”. They needed help, but looked in the wrong place. Who or where do you go when you need help? Throughout the Bible we are told to look to God and seek the Lord at all times and for all things. If you find yourself today in need of answers or help, I pray that you will first seek the Lord because He and only He can give you the answers you are looking for.

House Cleaning

2 Kings 18:4-6 – He removed the high places and broke the sacred pillars, cut down the wooden image and broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made; for until those days the children of Israel burned incense to it, and called it Nehushtan. He trusted in the Lord God of Israel, so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor who were before him. For he held fast to the Lord; he did not depart from following Him, but kept His commandments, which the Lord had commanded Moses.

Most people probably do not like to do house cleaning, but are usually thankful when they are finished. Because of their labor, they get to enjoy a clutter-free, clean house that they can live in. It makes them feel better about themselves and about their home. Cleaning house is beneficial to us, but cleaning our spiritual house is fruitful.

In today’s scripture we are told of how Hezekiah “removed the high places and broke the sacred pillars, cut down the wooden image and broke in pieces the bronze serpent”. If we are to truly receive the peace and joy in this life that the Lord desires us to have, we must first remove those things from our spiritual houses that will prevent us from drawing nearer to God. Just as cleaning our house makes us feel better, cleaning our spiritual house will make us feel blessed.

Naked and Barefoot

Isaiah 20:1-2 – 20 In the year that Tartan[a] came to Ashdod, when Sargon the king of Assyria sent him, and he fought against Ashdod and took it, at the same time the Lord spoke by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, “Go, and remove the sackcloth from your body, and take your sandals off your feet.” And he did so, walking naked and barefoot.

There is a reality show on TV called, “Naked and Afraid”. The concept is that they put 2 strangers (1 female and 1 male) together in a remote jungle to survive together for 21 days. Here is the catch — they are not given any resources and they are not allowed to wear clothes. I imagine that surviving for 21 days is difficult enough; having to do that naked must make the process even more difficult. Did you know that the Lord asks us to come before Him “naked and afraid” each day?

Today’s passage tells us, “Go, and remove the sackcloth from your body, and take your sandals off your feet.” Each day, the Lord wants us to come before Him “bare”. Not necessarily naked, but exposing every part of our hearts and souls to Him, not hiding anything from Him. In other words, He wants us to give Him everything and allow Him into every area of our lives. In other words, “naked and barefoot”.  Allow the Lord to cloth you with His righteousness, His grace, His mercy and His love each day so that you may complete the tasks He has placed in front of you.

The Idols Will Totter

Isaiah 19:1 – 19 The burden against Egypt. Behold, the Lord rides on a swift cloud, And will come into Egypt; The idols of Egypt will totter at His presence, And the heart of Egypt will melt in its midst.

Many people have replaced God in their lives with other things and other people. In other words, they have replaced God with idols. Not just non-believers, but believers as well. We may say we believe in God, but have a laundry list of things that keep us from attending our churches on Sundays. We proclaim that Jesus is our savior, yet, there are too many things to get done each day to actually spend time with Him. People might not want to admit it, or perhaps don’t even recognize it, but God has been replaced by idols.

In today’s Word, we are reminded that “The idols of Egypt will totter at His presence“. All of those things that we put in front of God will all “totter at His presence”. Why do we give our attention, resources and time to things that are temporary, yet ignore the one True God who is forever? No, your material things, your sports teams, your social media will never replace the Lord. I pray that today you will give your attention to the One that matters the most.

The Lord Will Give You Rest

Isaiah 14:3 – It shall come to pass in the day the Lord gives you rest from your sorrow, and from your fear and the hard bondage in which you were made to serve,

Many people are exhausted. Many people are overwhelmed. Many people feel like giving up. You might think I am talking about non-believers, but in reality, I am talking about people that attend your churches every Sunday. We might not see it, but people all around us are struggling with various things in their life. The one thing many of these people want is “rest”.

In today’s scripture we are told that “the Lord give you rest from your sorrow, and from your fear and the hard bondage”.  Rest assured that the Lord knows exactly what you are going through and how you are feeling. Take comfort and know that the Lord also wants to “give you rest”. Take time today to spend time with the Lord and rest in His presence, His power, and His promises.

2 Choices

Amos 5:14 – 14 Seek good and not evil, That you may live; So the Lord God of hosts will be with you, As you have spoken.

What is life about? Well, in my opinion, if you boil it down, life is about a series of choices we make each and every day. From the moment we wake up to the moment we fall asleep, our day is filled with choices we must make. Some choices will be considered “good” and others we may see as “mistakes”.

In today’s verse God tells Israel, “Seek good and not evil, That you may live”. That same command stands for us. We must “Seek good and not evil, That you may live”. I pray today that the choices you make will seek to honor God “that you may live”.
