I Have Chosen You

Haggai 2:23 – 23 ‘In that day,’ says the Lord of hosts, ‘I will take you, Zerubbabel My servant, the son of Shealtiel,’ says the Lord, ‘and will make you like a signet ring; for I have chosen you,’ says the Lord of hosts.”

When it comes to life, everyone wants to be a part of “the team”. We learn this from an early age. During recesses when kids are picked for sports teams, everyone wanted to be picked first, everyone wanted to be on the winning team. For some, they got their wishes. For others, it was a painful reminder that they did not quite belong like they wanted.

In today’s Word it says, “says the Lord, ‘and will make you like a signet ring; for I have chosen you,’. We too often forget that there is one team where we were chosen first. When Jesus died on the cross, He chose you above all others. You were His first and most important choice that He has ever made. Jesus said, “I have chosen you”. Have you remember to also choose Him first?

I pray for blessings today for you on your Journey!

Consider Your Ways

Haggai 1:7-9 – Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Consider your ways! Go up to the mountains and bring wood and build the temple, that I may take pleasure in it and be glorified,” says the Lord. “You looked for much, but indeed it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?” says the Lord of hosts. “Because of My house that is in ruins, while every one of you runs to his own house.

I recently talked at my church about tithing. More specifically, I talked about why God needs us to tithe. No, He doesn’t need our money since all is His, but He does need to know He can count on us. When we tithe, we are letting God know that we are ready, willing and available to be used by Him.

In today’s scripture we read, ““You looked for much, but indeed it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?” says the Lord of hosts. “Because of My house that is in ruins, while every one of you runs to his own house.” One of the reasons that God blesses us is so we can be a blessing to others. Whether it be with our time, skills and, yes, money, the Lord expects us to be willing to give back to Him and those around us. The Lord never blesses us so that the blessing can stop wth us. If your macchiato means more to you than your Messiah, “consider your ways”.

Setting a Foundation

Ezra 3:10-11 – 10 When the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, the priests stood in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, with cymbals, to praise the Lord, according to the ordinance of David king of Israel. 11 And they sang responsively, praising and giving thanks to the Lord“For He is good, For His mercy endures forever toward Israel.” Then all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.

One of the most important steps in the construction of a building is setting a good foundation on which the structure can be built. This step is so important that it is safe to say that without a good foundation, the structure will never be stable and safe. Many people will focus on the building, but pay no attention to the foundation. Are you paying attention to your spiritual foundation?

In today’s passage we read of Israel coming together to build the temple of the Lord. But, before they could complete the temple, they had to first set the foundation, “Then all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.” Have you taken the time and necessary steps to set your spiritual foundation so that you may build your temple (your body) to worship the Lord? Take time today to make sure your foundation is set, secure and stable.

The Spirit is in You

Daniel 4:18 – 18 “This dream I, King Nebuchadnezzar, have seen. Now you, Belteshazzar, declare its interpretation, since all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known to me the interpretation; but you are able, for the Spirit of the Holy God is in you.”

From time-to-time, we hear of incredible stories of people that were given temporary, amazing strength to accomplish great things. From lifting cars off of injured people to fighting off attackers, they were able to do things that was impossible only a few moments earlier. We often hear of similar stories with it comes to “spiritual experiences”, as well.

In today’s message we are told, “but you are able, for the Spirit of the Holy God is in you.” The Lord has many amazing stories of power for you, as well. Stories of doing great things that seemed impossible just seconds before. They will not be accomplished because of what you have done, but because “the Spirit of the Holy God is in you.” Pray for His Power and Presence to transform you and strengthen you. Pray for the Holy Spirit to fill you so the Lord can do great things through you. May your strength come from the Lord.

Peace Be Multiplied

Daniel 4:1 – Nebuchadnezzar the king, To all peoples, nations, and languages that dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you.

As I was reading today, this verse jumped out at me. If there is one prayer that we should be praying for our country and our world is that “Peace be multiplied to you”.

May the love of our Savior replace the hatred, chaos, conflict and division that has become so prevalent in our society today. As we pray for peace and His Presence, the Bible promises that the peace of God will be with us.

I pray for peace and His Presence for you today.

The King Was Angry and Furious

Daniel 2:12 – 12 For this reason the king was angry and very furious, and gave the command to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.

It seems that more and more, Christians are coming under fire for what they believe. Because we believe, honor and support the Bible, some call us names not worthy of a Christian. In fact, it has gotten to the point where society is trying to silence what we say, how we say it and when we say it.

In today’s scripture, “the king was angry and furious” because of what his people told him. He did not like the message so he took it out on the messengers. Today, many people may not like the message (unfortunately that includes many people within the church), so they are taking their anger out on the messengers (us). Never be ashamed or afraid to preach the Gospel (Jesus commands us to) in a Godly, loving way. No, they may not like us, but I pray that they will listen to the message.

Who Do You Seek?

Daniel 2:1-2 – Now in the second year of Nebuchadnezzar’s reign, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams; and his spirit was so troubled that his sleep left him. Then the king gave the command to call the magicians, the astrologers, the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans to tell the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king.

For most of us, we need assistance and guidance when it comes to life and all of the very important decisions we must make. In today’s day and age, there is no shortage of people that will tell you what, when and how you should live. A lot of people are willing to help, but should you be listening to them?

In Daniel 2 it tells us, “Then the king gave the command to call the magicians, the astrologers, the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans to tell the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king.” The king sought advice, but he sought the wrong advice. You too may be tempted to seek advice from the wrong people. Remember, when you seek out the wrong people, you will get the wrong advice. My prayer for you today is that you will be guided to Godly people and God’s Word for the advice, guidance and direction you seek for this life.

It Is Up To You

Daniel 1:8 – But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

I am sure that there are parts of your life where you feel completely “not in control”. Whatever it is, you seem at the mercy of  things or other people. For most people, this will leave them feeling discouraged, frustrated or perhaps even depressed. I often tell people to acknowledge those areas where you have no control, but focus on those areas that you have complete control.

In today’s Word we read that “But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself”.  One area where we have complete control, but people do not acknowledge, is in the area of sin. It is up to you to position and protect yourself so that you do not sin. Just as Daniel purposed his heart, we too must make the decision to not allow sin to rule and ruin our lives. You can do it because you are in control — it is up to you.

I Will Restore

Joel 2:25 – 25 “So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, The crawling locust, The consuming locust, And the chewing locust, My great army which I sent among you.

We have all seen the horrific destruction that has been caused by the recent natural disasters in Mexico, Houston and Florida. You look at all of the damage and wonder how will it ever get better? Will it ever get better? As I have heard the heart breaking stories of people that have suffered so much damage, I was reminded of the damage that is caused in our own lives through sin. How will we ever get better? Will we ever get better?

Joel in today’s scripture tells us, “So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten,”. Regardless of the sin we have committed in our lives and the damage it has done to ourselves and those around us, the Lord promises, “I will restore”. He will rebuild and replace what has been destroyed and restore us to His image. Simply seek, repent and return. May today be the beginning of a rebuilding process in your life and in your walk with the Lord.

Tell Your Children

Joel 1:3 – Tell your children about it, Let your children tell their children, And their children another generation.

In most families, stories are passed from generation to generation about relatives and events that made their family what it is. From how moms and dads met and married to funny events on vacations, people love to tell the stories of what made their family what it is. Interestingly enough, we love to tell the stories about moms and dads, but we forget to tell our children stories about their Father.

In today’s verse it tells us, “Tell your children about it, Let your children tell their children, And their children another generation.” Joel reminds us that it is our job and responsibility to tell our children and our children’s children about the Lord. Tell them who He is, what He has done and why He loves us. Their faith is not for someone else to teach them, but it is up to us. Tell your children why you love the Lord and why He loves them.

I pray for blessings today for you on your Journey!
