This is God’s

Genesis 32:1-2 – 32 So Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him. When Jacob saw them, he said, “This is God’s camp.” And he called the name of that place Mahanaim.

How often do we look at what we have and proclaim that it is God’s? We are quick to recognize that the things we have are the result of our hard work, time and money, but we are slow to identify them as God’s blessings in our lives.  In today’s passage, Jacob proclaimed that his camp was “God’s camp”. My prayer for you today is that you will see how all that you have and have achieved is the result of God and not of yourself. Yes, you may have “earned” it, but it was first the result of God’s blessings in your life.

I Am With You

Genesis 28:15 – 15 Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.”

Our situations and circumstances may cause us to question where God is in our lives. We may begin to think that we have been abandoned and forgotten by God. May today’s scripture be a reminder to us all that God promises, “Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go,” God is always with you, He is always covering you, He will never leave you. The people of this world will always fail you, but God never will. He will always be by your side.

Remember Your Actions

Genesis 27: 8-10  – Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to what I command you. Go now to the flock and bring me from there two choice kids of the goats, and I will make savory food from them for your father, such as he loves. 10 Then you shall take it to your father, that he may eat it, and that he may bless you before his death.”

Rebekah got Jacob to trick his father, Abraham, into thinking he was his older brother so he could receive the family blessing that his older brother deserved. They devised a plan to lie and deceive so Jacob could get what wasn’t his, “Then you shall take it to your father, that he may eat it, and that he may bless you before his death.”. We must remember that our actions and words should never encourage others to sin or assist them in sin. We are called to build people up in the walks, encourage them and support them as they strive to draw closer to God each day.

Promises Are Never Broken

Genesis 26:4 – And I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven; I will give to your descendants all these lands; and in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed;

The Bible is filled with God’s promises to us, the Bible is filled with proof that God fulfills those promises to us. Even with proof, we still doubt that God will do what He has promised. In today’s passage, God promised that He would make Isaac’s “descendants multiply as the stars of heaven”. A big promise, but God delivered. God has promised great things for you and God intends to fulfill. Remember to have faith and trust that God’s promises are never broken. He will deliver if you believe.

Will You Go?

Genesis 24:57-58 – 57 So they said, “We will call the young woman and ask her personally.” 58 Then they called Rebekah and said to her, “Will you go with this man?” And she said, “I will go.”

Rebekah was asked to leave her country and family to become Isaac’s wife and she said, “I will go”. It wasn’t a bold step of faith in trusting the servant that came for her,  it was a bold step of faith in trusting God. She was willing to go because she trusted God and had faith that He had a plan for her life. Will you go today where God calls you, to do what God calls you to do?

The Real Sacrafice

Genesis 22:13 – 13 Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son.

On a recent “Thought of the Day” that I also write, I posted “it will cost you nothing to follow Jesus, it will cost you everything if you don’t”.  May today’s scripture be a reminder to us that it was Jesus and only Jesus that paid the price for our sin and that it is Jesus and only Jesus that can free you from your sin.  The real sacrifice came in the form of a Savior that gave His life on a cross so we may be free and have eternal life.

What Are You Withholding?

Genesis 22:12 – 12 And He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.”

Some people are willing to give somethings to God, but not everything. Whether it be a trial, problem or even sin, some assume that they can handle that particular situation better than God. In keeping that situation to themselves, they only make the matter worse. In today’s verse we read, “for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son,”. What are you withholding from God? Why are you withholding it? My prayer for all of us today is that we will lay everything before the Lord and allow Him to be Master and Messiah over all areas and all situations in our lives.

An Offering to God

Genesis 22:2 – Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”

We read the story of Abraham and are amazed. He was so faithful to God that he was willing to offer his son, Isaac, as a “burnt offering on one of the mountains”. As pastors speak on this passage it is common to ask, “would you be willing to offer your child”? Great question, but a better guide. As you awake each day, are you willing to offer everything you have, including your children, to the Lord so that He may do as He wills in your life? No, we will never be asked to offer our children “as a burnt offering”, but He does ask you to give Him everything, everyday. Are you willing to offer yourself and everything you have as an offering to God?

Are You Giving God Your Best Today?

Genesis 18:6-8 – So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah and said, “Quickly, make ready three measures of fine meal; knead it and make cakes.” And Abraham ran to the herd, took a tender and good calf, gave it to a young man, and he hastened to prepare it. So he took butter and milk and the calf which he had prepared, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree as they ate.

Are you giving God your best today or are you giving Him what you have left over? In today’s Word we read, “So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah and said, “Quickly, make ready three measures of fine meal; knead it and make cakes.” God wants and expects our best each day, not what we have left over for HIm. May your life be an offering to the Lord that is pleasing to Him. May your life be an offering to the Lord that gives Him your best (time, money and talents) and not what you have left over.

How Often Are You Looking?

Genesis 18:3 – and said, “My Lord, if I have now found favor in Your sight, do not pass on by Your servant.

How often do you see the Lord working in your life? How often are you looking for Him? From everyday tasks to the spectacular, God is always working in our lives, but how often are you looking to see Him in your life? In today’s passage Abraham met three men standing outside of his tent and cried, “My Lord, if I have now found favor in Your sight, do not pass on by Your servant.” My prayer for you today is that you will look and find the Lord working in your life and in your day. He is always present, He is always working, it is up to us to see Him.
